Frequently Asked Questions

I have a Private or Commercial Pilot certificate.  Can I rent your light sport aircraft for personal use?
Yes.  As long as your certificate designates
Airplane Single Engine Land, and your Flight Review is current, you may fly any light sport aircraft that meets those parameters.  This makes maintaining proficiency much more affordable.
Renters are subject to a checkout by JacksonAir's instructors.
Rental insurance is also required.

How much does it cost to learn to fly and get a pilot certificate?

There are a lot of variables that affect the cost of learning to fly, including the frequency of flight lessons, weather conditions, the kind of aircraft in which you are training and its availability for scheduling, and individual aptitude. A rough estimate would range between $4,000 and $8,000, depending on the certificate being sought.  This estimate includes study materials and various examination fees that are often not mentioned by other flight schools.

How long does it take to learn to fly and get a pilot certificate?
The same variables that affect the cost of learning to fly will affect the time it takes to earn your certificate. The FAA has established the minimum number of flight hours needed to obtain a certificate. The minimums are
20 hours for a Sport Pilot certificate, and 40 hours for a Private Pilot certificate.  Many schools believe that a true average flight training time for a Sport Pilot is between 30 and 40 hours, while a Private Pilot usually takes between 50 and 60 hours.  So, with 2 lessons per week, you could finish your Sport Pilot requirements in as little as 3 months or less!

I have a Private Pilot - Glider certificate.  Can I fly your Light Sport airplane?
YES!  If you have at least a Recerational Pilot certificate in ANY category and class, you can operate as a Sport Pilot in ANY category and class, subject to some specific training and an additional endorsement.  Remember, Sport Pilots do not need to have a current medical.
