Today, JacksonAir is proud to offer Sport Pilot Training & Sport Pilot Lessons in the California desert. Serving ALL desert cities in the Coachella Valley including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, and Thermal.

Our Flight School is located in the Tradition Aviation hangar at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport-Thermal, Ca.

We provide all levels of flight instruction & training…Starting with the sport pilot certificate training.

Get excited, you’ll be flying on your first lesson. We conduct  Sport Pilot training using our brand new Cessna 162 Skycatcher and the Tecnam P92 Super Echo. They are both similar in flight characteristics to a Cessna 150- great visibility below- cruises at 114kts- with dual stick flight control for a truly traditional and fun experience! We’ll have you barnstorming in no time!

Sport Pilot Privileges:

  • May carry one passenger and share expenses (fuel, oil, airport expenses, and aircraft rental fees.)
  • You can fly during the daytime using visual flight rules (VFR) with 3 statute miles visibility maintaining visual contact with the ground.
  • You may fly Cross-country anywhere in the U. s.
  • You may fly up to 10,000 feet above mean sea level.
  • You can fly solo or with one passenger.
  • You can share operating expenses with another person.
  • Fly in Class E and G airspace (and B, C, and D airspace with appropriate training & proper endorsements).
  • Allows sport pilots to fly production (special airworthiness certificate) and experimental amateur-built aircraft that meet the definition of a light-sport aircraft.
  • Allows for rental of special light-sport aircraft (S-LSA).
  • Operate as pilot in command of a sport pilot eligible aircraft.

Sport Pilot Limitations:

  • Prohibited from Class A airspace
  • Prohibited from flying in Class B, C, or D airspace until you receive proper training and a logbook endorsement from a Flight Instructor.
  • No flights outside the U. s. without prior permission from the foreign aviation authority.
  • May not tow any object.
  • No flights while carrying a passenger or property for compensation, hire, or flying in furtherance of a business.

JacksonAir Pilots have given over 9000 hours of instruction with a spotless safety record! Well over 170 pilots have successfully completed FAA Certification exams at the recommendation of JacksonAir’s instructors!
